I've just done a pension forecast and it looks like I would be better off retiring early and continuing with some part time work.I am nearly 58 now so could I retire?--and how do I go about it??anyone know??

There is nothing needed to say you are retired. You can retire whenever you like. You basically become unemployed but with an alternative income to support you.
You just hand your notice in. Make sure your pension can be paid first though. Some have restrictions that can only be taken after age 60 (changing in April) and others will have excellent benefits if left to 60 (or later).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
