Crystal - go to it, some folks are not pushy, sure they like to chat but there are some that can be a bit pushy so just politely nod and move on. I do that when I visit these places, if they keep hassling I walk away (if I have picked up their business card - I make a note on it to say that they are pushy and then I know not to use them).

It is worth going as you might get some free cake, free champers, things to try, samples to take away, competitions to enter, you might even find a photographer that you like. You never know you might enjoy it - plus they will invariably have a catwalk show and maybe a dj will be demonstrating his talents or even a string quartet.
  • champers and cake... why thays all you had to say...count me in :D j/k

I was at the scottish wedding show this weekend at Glasgow SECC and there were a few deals to be had but only if u booked on the day. we didnt want to make any snap decisions but we tasted about 20 different cakes and found one we want, had some wine and champers and almost every single person there had sweets and biscuits to tempt you to their stalls and give u their cards/booklets. wedding bands giving away sample cds, I even had my nails and makeup done free. We came away with 5 bags full of books and magazines giving us ideas of where to look next the tickets one the door were £11 but we got ours from someone on freeshare im so glad we didnt pay for it as it wasnt much use for us im afraid it was a bit expensive for most things but we got lots of freebies and was a good day out

Jem - have a look in your local free paper as they are often advertised in these. Also if you have any county magazines then they are bound to be advertised in there as well.

It's good to go to fayres local to you or where you want to get married. You get to meet local suppliers that can be cheaper than the bigger companies with more prominant advertising.

You can also get chatting to the vendors who have lots of local experience. I've got venue recommendations from a balloon decorator and cake maker who've been to all of them in the area.

I got ideas of things I hadn't thought of before. I've discovered that tiaras definitely suit me and mini bath bombs are a great potential favours.

I'm not even getting married yet! :D

I've been to 4 now, and all very different. The big one was packed, but I got lots of ideas from it. Trying different cakes and stuff was quite fun. A smaller one we went to was very relaxed and more about the venue with a few suppliers only. That was nice as the chef was out to talk to people and had some to try. I found some of the photgraphers were good at suggesting local venues to us, without pushing their own services.

I'd stick with the free entry ones now, as they are good for getting some ideas. I find myself looking at the cakes and thinking how I could decorate an M&S one like that or the homemade cards and that I could make them.
Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!
  • Treat wedding fayres as an oportunity to see all your potential suppliers under one roof. Many will have special offers so its worth visiting one or two. I would advise you to go to one in a large city centre hotel and one in a country house type of venue - that way you'll see a good range of suppliers.

The National Wedding Show at the NEC is worth a visit - hundreds of suppliers, fantastic fashion shows with dozens of wedding dresses being shown. Wear sensible shoes and be prepared for a an overwhelming experience
