Security question - doesn't really belong in the other threads

Starting with an apology - sorry for posting this again, there are loads of topics on security when I searched but none that fits with the question I have.
Currently running AVG 8.0 free, Windows Firewall, Adaware and Spybot run weekly, CCleaner intermittently. Also router firewall running.
Have recently had my credit card details stolen and have decided to actually pay for an all in one package in an attempt to get a more comprehensive coverage for 3 computers.
(pause to allow MSEers to recover from the "p" word)
I've narrowed it down to the following: (PC World prices)
McAfee 2009 (3 User) Internet Security Suite £24.45
Norton Internet Security 2009 (3 user) £21.49
Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 (3 User Edition) £24.45
My question is this - which one is best? I'm looking for the best coverage, timely updates and software that doesn't kill my processing power. The difference in price is nominal and I intend to shop around a bit more anyway in case I can get it cheaper.
Thanks in advance!

Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

Of the three I've heard various reviews saying Kapersky is one of the best ones, and leaves the smallest memory footprint0

Kaspersky, no contest:idea:0

Thanks for this - I've noticed that particular seller charges £5.50 for posting but if you look at the Amazon price at the side it's only £17.36 with free posting - OK, I'll have to wait a couple of days extra but it's worth it!
Everyone seems to say Kapersky so will search for the cheapest and post it back here later on!Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? Price wise Novatech seems to be the cheapest for the 3 user version at £14.94 with 3% cashback through Quidco. Delivery is only £1.99 ex vat so the whole thing works out at £17.23!

Do you know that your details were 'stolen' whilst online and not cloned in a shop/elsewhere?
From the security you say you have, it looks like you need common sense rather than splashing cash I'm afraid.0 -
Along with Kaspersky i recommend
Using Firefox as your browser http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
Best security addons
- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865
- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722
Spyware blaster protects your browsers and prevents infection.
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
Also Spybot-S&D use the immunize feature which stops you visiting sites infected with malware.
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
Then run weekly scans with Malwarebytes and your anti-virus http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
Make sure you have the latest Java as older versions have exploits which viruses can use http://www.filehippo.com/download_java_runtime/
And also the latest Adobe http://www.filehippo.com/download_adobe_reader/0 -
Personally, I still think the following FREE software (and a good helping of common-sense and caution) would provide better protection:
Avira AntiVir
Spybot - Search & Destroy
SpywareBlaster
FireFox with the NoScript add-on
Comodo Firewall v3 (with Defense+ disabled and in Custom mode)
All relevant Windows security patches
In addition, it's probably a good idea to disable services like Remote Registry and UPNP unless you really need them.0 -
I agree with esuhl. I wouldn't pay for an antivirus for home use because there are good ones out there that are free. I would say use Avast, turn on Windows Update and take your pick from any of the free firewalls (Comodo is a good one, although personally I use the Windows Firewall and have never had a problem since I also use the built in firewall in my router) and spyware and adware programs. If you're desperate to spend money then I'd go with Kaspersky. I'd stay 100% clear of Norton though because every time I've ever stuck it on a PC the whole sytem grinds to a halt... it's bloated beyond belief.
The most important aspect is common sense, be careful what you click. You'll never be 100% safe but up to date software and being careful will help you get close.0 -
Of the three you have mentioned I'd go with Kaspersky but if I was buying security software it would be Eset. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0
