Can someone recommend an IP to speak to?

Have a friend who's currently undischarged BR and has some questions about how a future change in circumstances may affect his proceedings. At this stage he doesn't want to ask the OR, but does need professional advice.

Would it be an IP he needs to talk to? Or are there BR specialists? Where would he go about finding a good one who's advice will be 'official' and accurate and not cost the earth? Free would be nice I'm sure :)

Cheers!
Monty

Thanks! Are any of them better than the other regarding specific BR advice?

    Good idea :)

I dont have all the details to hand but here's the basics...

He has relatives in the Bahamas who have offered him a place to stay for free and to get him over there. He's lost the plot somewhat since going BR (last April) and with axe looming over him at work etc.. it's just about all he can take.

He's in an IPA with 30 odd months to run. If he takes up the offer, quits his job and leaves the UK how does that wash with the OR? Presumably no one can stop him doing this, but what happens next? What happens if he takes a job out there? How will they assess him remotely with no access to living expenses information etc?

..he has LOTS more questions but a start on the above would be great.

    Cheers!

The OR can not say a thing if he quits, more so if he has medical issues.

if he goes onto benefits the IPA will be suspended.

as for earning abroad, you sort of answered your own question
Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all …………. :(

Great news I guess, although I'm not sure I agree with the 'running away' implications.

..so you're saying they wouldn't bother looking into an IPA if he started earning over there? Or just that people who do this generally don't divulge this information? I do see a lot of people emigrating soon after BR, I guess this could be why!

Also when you say 'suspended' with regards to the IPA do you mean that if he comes back in a years time will he commence payments at 30 months to go? Or 18 months to go? (30 - the year)

    Cheers,

In the Bahamas, how would the OR know he was earning?? Unless he tells the OR.

An IPA, once in place, is only suspended until the 36months is up. If he were to come back to the UK, then the IPA would commence if he was earning for the remainder of the 36 month term (ie, paid 6 months, 12 months abroad, no job 6 months new job leaves 12 months of IPA). No income means no IPA.

Point taken but I know you have to let the OR know your address at all times so if he knew where you lived perhaps they have some deal with the authorities to check if you're working ... or something, I don't know - perhaps I'm thinking they have more time on their hands then they actually do :) If that's the case then it sounds like a no brainer really ..

1 more question ... he's just been paid a bonus in lieu of a promotion he was promised but never came to fruition (another cause of stress I might add) - does the OR get 100% of that? He's on NT tax code right now, how could they tell if got paid it at all, assuming they dont ask for pay slips? The whole process intrigues me, seems to be a lot of room for slipping money past their noses IMO.

Thats not what i meant, if he starts earning, what he discloses to the OR would most likely have to be done on trust, as the OR wont have the info needed as you said. Thats what i was getting at.
