Quick Q for hairdressers (or hair experts!)

Hi,

Is there a certain amount of time that should be left between dying your hair?

I dyed mine red before Christmas and now it's just a horrible brown colour. I used to have lovely blonde highlights through my natural dark hair but had a moment of madness with the red.

I'm hoping a hairdresser will be able to dye it back to my natural colour and then put highlights through it again. Do you think this will be possible to be done now bearing in mind that it was just over a month ago I dyed it red?

Many thanks, any advice much appreciated,

S

PS I've been washing it recently with Head & Shoulders which has really helped get rid of the dye.

  • Hi - I'm not a a hairdresser but thought I'd bump your thread for others to see. I do know that good colourists can do wonders with your hair - and hopefully will be able to get your hair back to your natural colour. It may take longer to be able to highlight it - but why not book a consultation and see what they can do (you can sometimes book a free consultation before actually booking an appointment.)

Ok head and shoulders has a high Ph value so it 'strips' your hair which is bad and thats why its getting rid of your colour.

Yes theres no reason not to go to the hairdressers and have your hair coloured.

HOWEVER as you used an 'off the shelf colour' make sure they test your hair for metallic salts, perform a strech test and give you a skin test (dont need a skin test with cap highlights but i would anyway to be safe)

FYI im not a practising hairdresser atm but I am qualified. If you go to a hairderesser tell them what you have told us and they dont want to do these tests walk out and try another.
