Date for BR

Hi All,

I rang the County Court at Newport Isle of Wight and asked how to book a date to petition for BR. I was told that I did not need to book, just turn up on a Tuesday or Wednesday at 9.00am as they had a judge on those days to deal with BR.

Does this normally happen.

    Hello jaydub,

Each court is different in the way they handle processing of bankruptcies......
some offer an appointment (like mine) and others offer a walk in service (like yours)......

It is normal for your local county court, yes.

  • Yep, I'm in Poole and Bournemouth Court has a drop in facility. You just arrive at 9ish and it's done on a first come first serve type thing. A bit like the deli in Sainsburys, you get a ticket with a number on and you just wait till it's your turn!

Some courts operate this system others operate with appointments, I suspect that when the number of bankruptcy's start going up the drop-in system will stop,we will just have to wait and see.
