The mortgage etc is a lump sum that goes into a separate acct each month for the costs of the investment property that mum and me have....in NI we don't pay council tax just rates (hubby pays this off in one lump sum each year) The £200 is from mum to pay her part of the poperty costs.

  • Hi Nellis,

As you know I'm new to this and someone clever is bound to be along soon;)
But it all looks like you know what you are doing to me, although your grocery bill is very generous.
    Can I come to tea?:D
Roll on Jan 30th for me too...
    Good luck with your quest

I know....I'm throwing money away somewhere and I need to seriously start some sort of spending diary/spreadsheet to make sure I know exactly what I am spending....

My problem is I am the world's biggest wally for starting something and not finishing it!! My big incentive is to clear my debts so that if we start IVF this year I won't have those payments hanging over my head when/if I start maternity leave.

We have the money for the first round of IVF saved away and I am NOT using that to clear my debts.....hence my need to get it sorted, the sooner I clear the CC the sooner I can use that money to save up to clear to next loan and so on....:o

  • I don't blame you for keeping your baby money safe-not all financial desicions need to be logical.
You seem focussed and determined and I'll nag you if you fall off the wagon so there:p

    Thanks OBNW!!!

I'm going to get a statement on the 30th and see what all my Direct Debits are and make sure I have already noted them!!

Then I need to clear £150 off my CC immediately...so I don't spend it!...I'm then going to take out £250 cash and see if that can last me the entire month! And then get my hubby to hide my Debit Card!!!

Oh and for the 42nd time I need to ask my bank for internet access...I keep losing each of the security numbers as they take too long between each one to send them!!

See I'm firing on all cylinders now....but just wait until 2nd week of Feb...I'll have fallen by the wayside! :o

well done on setting yourself such a target of clearing your credit card before the 0% ends, sometimes big targets give us the additional kick up the back side we need, and even if we miss them slightly we've still made a huge dent in our debts.
I love my online banking, i don't think i could be a dfw without online banking. I know what it's like about loosing numbers though, it too Natwest 3 months to get the card and pin number to me together during which i had many a grump with them.
And you WON'T have fallen by the wayside by the 2nd week of Feb, we'll be along to pick you up when you trip so you don't get the choice lol

    When in doubt...create a list or a spreadsheet!!! ;)

I've found £40!!! I am trying to keep an emergency slush fund of £200. I counted it today and it's £240....so I've taken the £40 to do me until the end of the month...£15 of which is going into savings!!

I've also got 400 NorKr to change at the PO whcih will be about £35!!!

AND!!! I got a £15 M&S Voucher today in work as a recognition award!!

AND....!!! I might even break even this month in the current account!!! WOOHOO Abbey can stuff their £850 temp overdraft that they are reducing by £48/month from Feb!!! I won't be using it ever again!!!

Actually what I want to be able to do is get enough money stored in my current account for my direct debits so that I can move across to my new current account and stuff Abbey once and for all!!

So I am off to update my spreadsheet for Feb and make a payment to my CC and post an ebay item I sold!

    Woohooo Thank Crunchie it's Friday!!!!:T :T

I have a load of spreadsheets from months gone by where I start with good intentions, and then 'something' crops up. I think I have to go the cash only route. Leave the debit card at home.

I'm totally doing cash only for the monthly shop too!!!

This is my budget for cash...
    Childcare...37.00
    Car Parking...40.00
    Petrol...60.00
    Food...250.00
    Clothes...30.00
    Health/Beauty...20.00
    Eating Out...20.00
    Credit Card Overpay...150.00
    Christmas...50.00
    Birthdays...20.00
    Family Treats...45.00

I am obviously looking to cut back on some of these...but if I budget for them and I am still in the black so much the better! :T
