Think you need to apply for WTC (dependent on the number of hours you work). Can't swear to it though. And I think the form is like writing a novel...
  • Thanks, whats a WTC?

Working Tax Credit. There's a number to ring on the HMRC site, they'll send you a pack out, but you need to go through a questionnaire on the site first to check it's the right benefit for you.

my dh used to be self employed and had to stop. ( he was a taxi driver and the car broke down - didn;t have £2000 to repair it without working and couldn;t work without the car) in order for him to sign on as unemployed he had to prove he couldn;t work as a taxi driver anymore . this involved getting a letter from th council he was lincenced through to say he had returned his licence.

if you are not going to be working in that job anymomre i think you can sign on but if its just a temporary break in employment i am not sure where you'll stand.
