    maj,

    Is this right:

Your monitor won't work when you first switch on pc 1. It used to come on on pc 1 after a beep sound is heard but now there is no beep sound and it won't come on at all?

It will work normally on pc 2. ? (With or without beep sound?)
    Torgwen.......... :) ...........

it works on the second pc and comes on after the beep and you can see the pc load up,

when you turn your pc on, here it carefully and after a beep sound the moniter come on and you can see the pc load up.
  • Have you ruled out a duff monitor lead? i.e. Are you using the same cable to connect the monitor to each PC?

    Hiya Maj,

Sounds like youve got a problem with your graphics card. Your graphics card will either be seperate (plugged into your mainboard via PCI or AGP) or your system will have onboard graphics.

If its the first option the first thing to do is ask a couple of questions. 1. Has the PC been bumped or moved? 2. Has the memory or processor been changed eg including a bios update.

Answering yes to these questions will mean that you have to a. check to make sure the card is sat firmly on the mother board & where possible make sure the monitor uses a seperate power source if it still fails to operate post back with results.

If your computer uses onboard graphics this is more serious as it could mean a replacement mainboard being required (but this can be over come)

the motherboard i have got uses a onboard graphics card.

i do have a spare onboard agp slot where i can add an additional graphics card and a spare pci card,

i can not do anything with the bios setting as nothing is going through the pc to the moniter.

please advise should i get a agp card and add that to the motherdoard or do i need a new montherboard?????

    thanks for all your replies.

So have you upgraded your processor or updated you bios (sometimes done in order to increase processor size) or has the computer just stopped working?

I had several monitors that had been in storage. They would not display video when they had power and had a video lead connected to a running PC. The monitor would go into a power saving mode. I thought it was the graphics but it was the monitor. I think both the graphics card and the monitor were waiting for each other to signal something.
The trick was to switch the monitor off before powering up the PC. Then shortly after powering on the PC switch on the monitor. Monitors and PCs have sorted things out and now work normally.

i have not upgraded any of the pc bits, one day the pc would not work,

i have tried turning the pc on first and then turning the moniter but still no luck,

i think it may be the graphics card,

    any ideas???????????

My mainboard also has onboard graphics, but I use an AGP card seperately not being able to access the bios has never been a problem irrelivant of it's setting. But the computer was unstable whilst the AGP card was in use with the bios set to use onboard.

You could try to use an AGP, which will enable you to access the bios where you will be able to alter the setting.

looking at the replys i think theres a problem with the onboard graphics cards, by buying a agp card this would help fix the problem,

a new 4x agp card would cost around £15,

and a new motherboard socket a k7 (pc chips) costs around £20,

is is better to buy a new motherboard rather then getting a agp card????

i currently have got a pc chips motherboard and a amd athlon 1800 xp processer.
