The True Cost of Cheap Food?

  • You'd have to ask the farmer.

My grandfather used to deliver eggs to the local estates in Barnsley. People used to provide him with boxes. If they're advertising as freerange, then they probably are. Far too much of a risk if caught cheating the public. I was simply posting a warning about assuming 'freerange', just because you can see a few chickens running around.

Sorry if the tone appeared 'bolchy'.

A risk of what, getting caught or being punished?

There are many retailers who cheat the public and get away with it because the authorities don't have the resources to deal with them.

Who passed off "up to 30 million battery eggs as free range" and how come the authorities said "We are informing the general public because we need their help to stop it"

Most people who commit crimes do not think about what will happen if they are caught, they look at the chances of getting caught.

The authorities will spend millions prosecuting a market trader for selling carrots in pounds (well they used to!), then tell you they haven't got the time or money to help you when you are cheated by a retailer.

Once you buy an egg from a farm shop, it's your word against theirs that it is/is not free range. Come to think of it, could you prove you bought it from them if they claim they have never seen you before? Even if you have a receipt, could you prove it was for the eggs you are claiming are not free range.

When I called to the farm he was in a out building, but the dogs started barking & he came out.
He led me to a large coolbox on his porch, inside were eggs & a little pot of money.
It was laid out like that for people in the know to help themselves & pay.
So I guess its mainly a small local market he serves.

    And that's not crap?

Tesco value porridge oats however are made from

    oats

    Choose your value products wisely.

I agree! Preservatives are bad, and as for calling the above chicken nuggets? They seem to have a variety of other things in them to me.
