Considering it, really need advice

Hi,
My name is Mike and I have been browsing these forums for a while now, and I see a lot of people in the same situation as me. I also see a lot of people that really care about each other, and give great advice. I could do with being part of this family!

I am 33 years old, and I currently live with my Dad after my relationship with my girlfriend fell apart. I have a 10 year old son that I have every weekend from Friday night and drop him home before work on Monday. My financial situation has become unbearable in the last couple of months. I have £13,000 worth of unsecured debt on credit cards and personal loans Most of the debt's were incured after I moved to my Dad's. I was living on credit and to be honest I really wasnt keeping an eye on the situation. I took on more credit if I needed things. Looking back now I can see how stupid I was.
Today I have decided that I cannot keep on chucking unopened letters in a draw, ignoring the phone ringing and burying my head. I overspent like a fool, and now I have to accept the consiquencies.
I do not know what to do next. The bank, and credit card companies were calling my landline up to 5 or 6 times a day, my Dad has been talking to them, but he has a strong dislike to credit in general, and has been a bit abusive sometimes. As he has nothing on credit and no loans, he thinks anyone that takes out credit for anything is a fool. I feel for him being harrassed all day, but I cannot face calling them back and facing my situation.
Please help
Mike

  • Tell them to only contact you in writing. Then figure out who you owe money to and how much. How much you have coming in. Infact do a full SOA before you consider doing anything else. Once you have this talk to one of the debt charities and if you feel comfortable post on here for others to offer advice on.

  • You can do him proud by sorting it out. Don't worry,

Have you got all the paperwork you need. Are you working/earning anything.

Ok, on it now. Will post back in a while. Thanks a lot.
  • Right at some stage you are going to have to open them. They can't hurt you they are only bits of paper. WARNING though they may contain threats upsetting though they are try to only look at the numbers to see where you stand.

If anything does upset you post it and we will tell you if it is something to worry about or just a scare tactic.

Hope that lot made sense, I'm only a dumb blond after all:D
