Query re online survey sites & taxes

Hi everyone! I'm new here and have been reading through some of the threads about completing online surveys/reviews for cash or vouchers.
I've signed up to a few of these sites, though I only did it this week so haven't started reaping the rewards yet!

My query is whether I have to register myself as self-employed with the IR, even though I will probably only make a couple of hundred pounds a year, if that! Is it still necessary? I know the answer is probably floating around here somewhere but I haven't come across it yet!

Thanks!

Hi, me again!! I probably should also mention that I am on income support at the moment and I'm not sure if this would be affected should I start making a little money from these websites - does anyone know?

I know I've asked a lot of questions, sorry! This is a whole new thing for me though so I am a bit unsure how to go about it.
    Thanks for reading!

Hey guys, thanks for the info!

Having been registered for a few days now I also agree that I won't be making my fortune anytime soon! But I'm not complaining, every little helps eh! (and no, I don't work for a well-known supermarket chain :p )
  • My accountant told me that I have to declare if I receive cash payment (e.g. Paypal) but I don't have to declare if it's paid in vouchers (e.g. Sainsbury's, Argos, Amazon etc)

Apparently you do have to register for Self Employed even if you not making thousands of pounds in cash from surveys and mystery shopping, etc. IIRC you only pay tax on your main job.

I still haven't done it myself but I need to shortly.

This is a really useful first post: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1218145
