Post-bankruptcy?

Hi,

It's my court date tomorrow morning, 10am, and having gone through a whole range of emotions during the last three weeks and putting off finishing my form for as long as I can, I'm now having to finish it off at the last minute. Should have made that my user name: lastminite. Really don't want to do it.

Anyway just wondered whether things are really better afterwards? Would anyone have their time again and not go br?

Hoping I'm not just making things worse for myself by going br, could lose my home if my landlord finds out, my car if the OR so decides and my job if my boss finds out.

Don't have any choice though so best get back to the forms, they are sooooo depressing, having to put all your failure down with reasons to boot!

Hi Applepieandcustard! I know that completing the forms is a pain, I sort of did mine in little bits and pieces and then made a proper effort and got them all done in one go.

Things don't feel too different for me just now, maybe it has not sunk in that the debts are gone? But I have the odd moment when I think that I am now without debt and it feels nice.

Probably asked you before but have you checked your tenancy agreement for a BR clause?

The car, I hope you get to keep it.

The job - well the only way the boss could find out is if someone tells him or he reads the notice in the paper. He cannot find out that you have gone BR by your getting a nil tax code as he has no right to know why you have one.

Good luck with the forms! And all the best for tomorrow, hope it goes well for you! :D

  • Good Morning applepie,

Firstly, Good Luck for tomorrow - it will be exactly one week to the hour from my BR, I hope yours goes as smoothly as mine. ;)

I experienced exactly the same feelings as you..... What if... What if.....
The thing you have to consider most is what has life been like debt-ridden and struggling for however long it's been or the chance to draw a line and start over again?
I finished my forms last Sunday afternoon and pressed the submit button in the evening. There was a real sense of finality about it and I almost wanted to press a cancel button and get them back! But, I am glad I did it and am looking forward to a Debt Free Future.
Try and think positive, I have got the OR interview to look forward to
and I am apprehensive, but what will be, will be and I have had enough sh*t over the years to make me think it is my turn to have some good luck..... I send my Best Wishes that it will work out that way for you too.

    Have a good day,

  • Hi Don79,

Sort of getting there with the forms, just got list of creditors to finish (very depressing listing everybody - there are 17  ) plus the reasons for br (extremely depressing, going to need at least an eccles cake to get me through that bit!).

Unfortunately, the tenancy agreement does have a br clause and landlord can kick me out immediately :(. This time last year was facing homelessness fighting house repossession (won that one yippee!:D managed to force sale even though we didn't get any money back at least the house wasn't repossessed) so it sort of feels like a big circle if the worst does happen. But I hope I'm a good tenant, pay my rent a day early every week without fail since I've been here (it's due saturday and I always pay it on friday), I even look after his mail and he collects it weekly so, you never know he might be ok.

Feel loads better re car as just read Mr E's post from a day or so ago about his court date, and not so worred about that now.

I've got fingers, knees, eyes crossed (not helping the form filling but need all the luck I can get, hee hee!).

Oh dear, I didn't mean for that to happen ......:o

I see absolutely no reason why your landlord should ask you to leave. The BR clause is probably there purely as a lever for him to be able to turf a tenant out if they have caused problems as well as being BR. Like you say, you have been a model tenant, he won't get rid of you in a hurry, I am sure.
The same goes for your job. Have you checked your t's and c's of employment - is there anything on there? If not, I am sure it will be OK - there is no reason why they should know anyway. I think (hope) we are late enough in the tax year for us not to get a Nil tax code so they won't find out from that.
The car, don't know ..... doubt it but I will kepp my fingers crossed too...
I shall be heartbroken if they try to take my little Fiat... we belong together!
    :D

    Hi applepieandcustard,

All the best for tomorrow ... just think of it as something you have to do, try and take it your stride ... enjoy it even, there's not many that get to experience such a day. You'll feel a lot better on the other side !!!

It's not really sunk in for for me yet; the last few weeks I was so totally blinkered with worry that I let my life slip ... there are so many things that I now want to do and get on with ... BR is a massive relief for me and hopefully you :)

    The fog will clear !!!

    Mr E.
  • Cheers everyone  , as always I feel much better for visiting the forums and for the support everyone always gives. Off to feed my children and then will complete the final question on the form and then I'm ready!

I'll hopefully not be too much of a gibbering wreck tomorrow that I can't let you all know how it went.

SA, I'm a bit tearful at the moment, is all, am ok for now.
