Consumer advice needed - Currys laptop

Bought a laptop from Currys on the 28th November 2008. So less than 2 months ago, yet in the last day or so it's starting just switching itself off for no reason at all, in the process of reinstalling vista on it, question is, can I take it back for a replacement or a credit note so that I can get a different laptop? I've obviously got the reciept/box etc.

I think the best you could hope for is a repair

Sounds like it's overheating, computers will shut themselves down to save damaging the cpu. Is there any sound like a fan spinning? Chances are they will just repair it if it's something as simple as that.
  • it made a weird sound as it turned itself off yeah. I'll take it back tomorrow and see what they say.

  • My 4 year old Dell did this when "summer was at it's hottest - I did have it on for rather a long while though, and it was rather hot on the bottom!

If they want to send it away for repair and you can't part with it for that length of time they have cooling trays on Ebay for next to nothing. I haven't tried one yet but I would imagine they would work. Am going to get one if mine makes a habit of it next summer.

I think the minimum you could hope for is that they honour the terms of their warranty.
