Started to do something..

Options
Hi everyone.
Just found this site . Cant say how relieved I am to do so.

My wife and I have around 40k in unsecured debts between us and.. a mortgage of £50k.

Last year was a horror for us and we didnt start earning again untill November. I think I must have been waiting for the golden chalice to arrive and just ignored all my debt untill today.

What a complete and utter fool I have been. I made promises to my debtors that I could not keep and ignored the phone and the letters.

Today however we arrived home to find a citation from our building society as we owe them £2600 in arrears on our mortgage. (470 per month). We were going to pay £500 this month and next and then up it too £700 per month.

I have just called pay-plan and the guy was really good and they will phone me back on Tuesday morning to go into more detail.

My wife suffers from depression so this is even harder on her.

Just seeing this site has gave me some relief. Thank you.

I vow from today to sort things out. I just hope and prey its not too late.

  • Well done on taking the first step :T

I too am new to this site and have found it really helpful. Make sure you check out the other forums for money saving tips. It might help to post a stantement of affairs and let the good people on this site help you cut costs. I haven't done this yet but will do soon.

I too have just contacted Pay Plan and have my call on Sat, hopefully it will go well.

I too have been stupid about my debt and feel foolish but guess what there are thousands out there like us. The only difference we have made the first steps to sorting out the mess.

Good Luck and I hope all goes well for you and your wife. Depression is hard to deal with but with your support and love she will get through it.

Two payments made to Payplan. Waiting for offers to be accepted

Sometimes all you can do is dance and smile
  • One huge step has been taken by you both - realising the amount of debt and taking positive steps to start to clear it - well done :T

Another good step is not to tackle it alone. Payplan and this forum will help you out. Payplan have good relationships with many creditors and will put you in a strong position with reduced repayments with hopefully interest frozen and will prepare you a budget. All I ask is that you list every debt and every ourtgoing no matter hhow trivial or how stupid it may sound. This forum will also give you advice on dealing with creditors. If anyone calls say that Payplan is dealing and they will be in contact with them shortly with an offer of payment. If they start making demands let us know - there is a heap of advice on this forum. I have been a debt collector myself and know the tricks of the trade and can help you combat them - sounds ironic but I am in debt - it happens to us all - there is light at the end of the tunnel ;)
  • Lets see the statement of income and expenses as the first thing you need to do is keep the roof over your head, the rest of the debts can wait a bit

A full list of debts and the APRs would help as well
