Please help - Sky want money we don't have

  • Just noticed the above and what this DH said to you. Naughty of Sky. You are no longer under contract once 12 months expires as I said. So, precisely how are they now claiming you are still in a contract? Interesting. Maybe worth your while reporting them to either Trading Standards or OFCOM. Unfortunately, this is how Sky will become when you try to leave or fall behind with payments. I had some scatty woman threatening me down the phone with all sorts 6 years ago when I cancelled their subscriptions. But am now back with them. How they get away with it ... but they do.

You are "in" a contract until you cancel it. Exactly the same as with things like mobile phones or gym memberships. The 12 month period is the MINIMUM term, not the ENTIRE term of the contract. When you take out a contract for something like this, you don't specify an end date! After 12 months you are free to cancel the contract, with one month's notice. It's pretty standard and I don't think Trading Standards or OFCOM would be particularly interested to be honest. I'm not sure what you think they are "getting away with" - it's all pretty standard practice as far as I can see?

Sky restart contracts if you upgrade - no idea if this is legal if you have not signed, but if you have had a new Sky Plus box or HD or whatever you many still be in contract. You may have signed something on receipt of a new box?

I think this is also true if you take any of their other services eg phone or broadband as it's a package with the tv.
