The first bus service of its kind aims to take people on short trips around residential roads, High Street and out to the factories on the edge of town.
It offered free rides on Monday and Tuesday, and tested its real appeal from Wednesday.
While take-up was tentative on Monday, it increased on Tuesday and bus bosses hoped shoppers, schoolchildren and workers of all ages would throw their support behind it.

When you read the article July1962 quotes from, it seems it's a new bus service that started last week- Mon & Tues were the first days the free rides were offered- and is ongoing.....
