Wedding Venue gone bump!!

Hi I get married on 1st August this year and we had a letter today from a Business Rescue and Recovery agent telling us that our venue has gone into liquidation and we have paid them £500. We didn't have any insurances and are now at a loss with the forms we have been sent if anyone has gone through anything simlar and could advise I would be really grateful.

Thanks

  • Ahh dear so sorry to hear this :( Not too sure on the forms and admin side of things, but have you tried ringing alternative venues to see if they are available? It might be worth telling them whats happened and if they are available you may be able to negotiate with them on price, hope it gets sorted out ok

  • Forgot to ask, did you pay by credit card? As you should be covered by your credit card company if you are

I'm really sorry :( If you can, get onto other venues in your area, explaining what has happened. Please let us know how you get on.
  • Thanks everyone we've been printing off details of other venues all day will be doing ringing round on Monday. Could really do without the stress....it was all going so well!!!
  • Oh no, thats terrible. Im so so sorry. As has been said, did you pay by card? They might be able to recover some of your funds.
Hope you find somewhere even better really soon

    Mortgage-free Glee!
    That is really bad luck.

Replied to your other thread here.

I strongly recommend getting insurance in case any other mishaps arise.

    Best of luck with everything.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
  • so sorry thats awful, I know its probally no comfort to you now but at least its happened now and not a few weeks before your wedding, hope you find something you love thats an even better price x x

That is awful news. I know it wont help you in your situation but may offer some small consolation, my friends daughter had paid for eveything!!! (bout 12k worth) and the weekend before her wedding the venue burnt down! - She had no insurance and lost all the reception money + some other things that she had paid for - and still had to find another venue and find ways to pay for it!

I know £500 is still a lot of money, especially when you are on a tight budget, but like an earlier post mentioned - at least it was not closer to the date! - Keep your chin up and think that it could have been worse! You will still have a fabulous wedding and some other venues may take pity on your circumstances and offer a discount!

Good luck with everything! x x
:D Finally decided to start growing up when it comes to money!:j
  • Which area are you looking to have your reception Claire? Perhaps we could help!

    :)
  • Hi thanks for all your replies. Unfortunately we paid by cheque so know that we can't get anything back and we have been consoling ourselves today that at least it's not the week before the wedding. At the moment it sounds awful but we are that stressed with it we can't wait to get the day over with and get on the plane for our honeymoon/family holiday (we've already got 3 boys).

We are in the West Midlands, have done lots of ringing round and emailing today but nothing anywhere near sorted. If anyone has any ideas all appreciated. :D
