Sainsbury's is to become the first of the big four supermarkets to ban battery chicken eggs.
The surprise announcement yesterday - which will see the supermarket remove battery eggs from 790 stores by February 5 - was described as ' breathtaking' by welfare campaigners.
They called on Sainsbury's major rivals Tesco, Asda and Morrisons to follow suit.

The co-op did this awhile ago.Even the ready made sandwich filling egg mayo is made with free range eggs.Glad to see sainsbury's is following theleader.:Twendy x0

Waitrose has been "free range only" for ages, to be honest I'm surprised Sainsbury's have taken so long to come into line0

We buy those old Cotswolds legbar eggs (Sainsburys sell them) and they are usually coloured eggs but they taste so much better than caged bird eggs
