I can remember a friend found a very reasonably priced hotel near Brick Lane, but I'm really sorrry I can't remember what it was called. Travelodge also still have some good priced rooms in London on odd days in February so might be worth looking for the days you want.

The evening standard have a loyalty card with heaps of london offers. Plus all the museums are free.

View London is a really good website for events - most of them are free so check that out too. and if you're into tv shows, many of them are filmed in london so you could check one out. In fact, the BBC often do free events at the studios in white city.
