Olympus Superzoom 76s or Praktica 970af??

I have a (rubbish) 3 mg digital camera, and as I can't afford a good quality
6/7mg one, I've decided to go back to 35mm compact.

So, these two camera's are in Argos at the moment, both for £39.99. Has anyone any experience of either?

Both are similar specs, except the Praktica has night mode, and the Olympus doesn't.

I've never had an Olympus or Praktica, so would appreciate any feedback.

many thanks!!

Go for the Olympus - other things being equal I'd always buy from a firm that at least knows how to produce top quality optics. Alternatively why not look at end of range stuff (ie last years models) which are available quite cheaply eg http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/shop/detail.asp?ProductID=3159

Praktica used to be a decent cheap East German maker but now tend to label a lot of stuff made anywhere - lots of firms do that though.

  • I have an Olympus Superzoom C760 (so i presume it would be moderately similar to the 35mm one). - They can be had for £90 inc p+p from amazon!

Excellent all round camera, great bright flash, great picture quality with a wide range of features, and manual adjustments! Great zoom too; however you will need a steady hand, or have to prop it somewhere to get decent pictures when you are zoomed in.

    Hope that helps a bit

  • Thanks very much for getting back to me!!

I guess I'll be going for the Olympus!

I don't suppose anyone would know of any 35m camera review sites?

I've googled, but just come up with the price comparison sites, and none of the (cheapish) camera's on Amazon, have any reviews for them...

Once again, many thanks for the help!

I would hold out and as JimArnold sugested go for last years model you dont really need a 6/7mp camera unless you plan printing anything over A4 in size and that can be done with a 3mp camera no problem. I had a pic printed at A0 from a 4mp camera

I have the Olympus C770 which droped in price by over 50% 6 month after I got mine the C760 is without the hot shoe, remote shutter release and is made of plastic I think. but the optics are outstanding the pictures are brilliant I would recomend

A sample from my C770 taken during the filming of the power of 2 excercise DVD from Peter kay http://www.johnentwistle.btinternet.co.uk/images/PA190113.JPG, if you think about the initail cost of a digital camera then take in to the aditional costs of a film camera like film and processing after a year the digital will have saved you a fair bit also the advantages of digital previewing pics and no cost to see if the pics are good or not you get the good ones printed.
