Going BR - giving up house/assets

Hi,
We are completing Br papers early feb then planning to proceed with going BR in March. We are voluntarily giving up our house as we cannot afford mortgage payments.
We are looking for rented accom now and this month, stopped paying our first mgage payment on CAB advice.
As the house is an asset that we are voluntarily returning to the mortgage lender, what is classed as part of the house which does not belong to us? Is it a bit like fixtures and fittings etc or Can we take all our furniture, curtains, blinds, curtain rails, things like that? Its just the rented place we are looking at is very bare. Sadly we only had new carpet put all through the upstairs of the house in Oct and I feel like taking that as well!
Many thanks, Lisa

You can take anything you want, strip it bare if you need to. Someone even took a fitted kitchen
If there's stuff you don't need take it anyway and sell it on ebay.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Thanks pp - doesnt the mgage lender or OR have anything to say about it?? We could do with taking the bathroom suite!!!! Believe me, rental one makes me want to cry!
I could really do with ripping up some of our brand new carpet - I know we are down-sizing/suffering less luxury but its this thick old green pile in one room. Makes you feel sick just to look at it.
I just know it is going to be so much more improved when we move in, it annoys me that landlord wont reduce anymore. I never used to be like this but Ive started wanting a bargain!
Ive even started worrying about the electric in our house and its going to be one of our debts declared in Br!!!! Better late than never to start getting money-wise I suppose! cheers lisa0 -
Take what you need. If you have old green carpet then take what you need to replace the carpet. Taking it all is daft as you can't store it or sell it and then you have to spend time dumping it etc.
Likewise with the fittings etc. If you need them in the new place then take them. You could try to sell them or leave them. Don't worry about it. You cannot get into trouble for taking the blinds or the light shades etc.0 -
Yeah take it its not like you were ever going to get a call from the mortgage company thanking you for fitting the lovely kitchen and bathroom.:rotfl::cheesy: K2nga :cheesy:

Take everything you want or need. You paid for it, its yours!0

I think it highly unlikely that the OR would be interested in your carpet. I think a common sense approach is needed. If you have an persian rug worth thousands then thats different. But as for fixtures and fittings, I cannot see a problem. Maybe you are seeing too many demons, just get on with your life, heavens knows there is enough to worry about in this world.0

Thanks all,
Agree with Dodger, we have enough rubbish to sort here without taking it all with us.
It's just we have lots of venetian and horizontal blinds here (really popular in NI!) and we might be able to re-use in rented place. Our kitchen and bathroom here need updating so wont be lugging that with us;)
Just fitted brand new carpet all upstairs (didnt realise extent of money probs at time!!!) so wana take a bit of my money back. Again its basic price stuff (under £1k) as you dont buy expensive when you have 5 dogs!!!!
Thanks comments really helpful...0
