wrong tax codes

Hi,
A friend of mine works in a local bar and was wondering if her tax was right - she is on code 543L, which i was under the impression that this is an old tax code - with current tax codes starting with 6 (i.e. being able to earn 6 grand without paying tax).
Is her code outdated and if so can she get any tax back?

the 'normal' tax code for one's only or main job is 603L
543L was correct in April but the codes changed in September. .. so she is owed some tax back..0
