Win '98 error message on boot up

Hi All,

We booted up our pc with a disk in and got the message:

"Invalid system disk replace the disk and then press any key"

We removed the disk but the message keeps coming back, even after powering off and back on again. We have just sold it on ebay as well !!  Help!

do you have a winows boot disk?

if you do, put that in and power off and on

when it comes to the A: prompt

    type scandisk c:

this will then check the harddisk for errors
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)
  • Check in the BIOS to see if the HD is being recognised, and also check what the Boot sequences is (ie Floppy, HDD0, HDD1, CD-ROM, etc).

you can get a boot disk here if you havent already got one

    http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

maybe you need to reinstall the OS if it is detecting your HD etc but not getting any further?

  • "Insert master CD 1"

Don't Packard Bell PCs come with a 'restore' CD which, when run, sets the PC back to 'factory settings' - possibly not exactly what you want to do as it may wipe out all data and programs installed after the PC was purchased !
