A long one, but my court BR-day experience.

Hi guys, time to give you all the not so gory details of my day…
So, after a slightly restless night I moseyed on over to the court. Checked in with the admin clerks who promptly corrected my occupation on the printed forms to something more meaningful, the forms had my job title in that location, I then signed my name several times, at this point my hand was shaking so much I could hardly do it.
She asked if I would like to swear on the bible or, urm, something else that I cant remember. I said that I wasn’t religious so we did the other one “I <insert your name> to solemnly and sincerely swear….” After one more signature she asked for money but assured me I could have the £5 change from the £500 I handed over. Once that was done she told me to head downstairs and report to court usher and hopefully I’d be in front of the judge before 10am (it was 9:35 at this time), she also told me not to worry about it as the judge I was seeing was a nice one.
Sat around in the waiting room till about 10:25 then was called to the court room. Took a seat and helped myself to the water provided and the judge asked me to confirm my name and occupation, he then asked if I was aware I’d lose my shares (I said I was) then he asked if I’d sought professional advice. Upon confirming this he said as of 10:27am on the 16th of January 2009 I was declared bankrupt and that if I wouldn’t mind returning to the usher he’d pass my file back. He wished me all the best for the future.
Went back upstairs where the usher explained the admin clerk would be about 10 minutes doing the paperwork and faxing them to the OR before calling me into the interview room for a chat with OR.
I was called into the interview room where the admin clerk asked if it was as bad as I thought it would be and I said I’d built it all up to be something bigger and that the first bit was the waiting. She called the OR’s office and exchanged a few details before saying that once I’d finished I was to let myself out.
I spoke to a nice woman at the office who just wanted to confirm a few details such as what bank account I had my wages paid into, after hearing it was a co-op account with only £3 in she asked me for the sort code, account number and branch location so that she could fax something over to them saying they had no interest. I asked if I would be allowed to continue using the HSBC corporate card I have as it’s not something I’ve signed a credit agreement for and it’s a company liability and she said that it would probably be ok legally but HSBC might have issue. I then had it explained about the telephone interview and she offered me a choice of times on the 2nd or 3rd of Feb. I took the first available on the 2nd, she asked if I had a landline number that could be called as they were trying to keep costs down I explained I hadn’t but will probably book a meeting room at work so will be able to call them from there. She said I’d receive a pack in the post next week asking for various bits of information, I mentioned to her that I was renting a place from somebody and didn’t have a tenancy agreement, she said it’s not a problem.
So there we have it, definitely not a walk in the park as I went through a whole raft of different emotions.
I then proceeded to head into my nearest Barclays to open a Cash Card account, fantastic experience one of the happiest nicest people I’ve ever met dealt with me, I’m definitely going back to see her… She took my details and about 15 minutes later gave me my sort code and account number and explained I’d get a joining pack next week. So I’ll have two accounts (making the assumption the Co-Op are cool) and I’ll get work to split my wages across the two once I get an IPA so I can keep the IPA and my living expenses separate.
I hope you’re still awake!! J
