Casserole dishes suitable for stove top and oven?

Hi all,
Hope someone can give me some advice. New Years resolution to do more cooking from scratch and I would like to get a casserole dish that is suitable for the stove top and oven. I don't particularly want cast iron as they're so heavy before you put anything in them! Any suggestions gratefully received.

I have a Pyroflam (sp) glass dish with a lid which is ideal for both, I have had it for about 20 plus years so I don't know if they still make them.

I bought a set of Prestige saucepans that are good to go in the oven up to 180* which would be fine for casseroles... I got them in Homebase... the pans are cream nonstick and they are so easy to clean ... I love them

Although seriously expensive, I love my Le Creuset cast iron pan, I am sure it will outlive me and many generations after me, so it was a great investment when I bought it many years ago.

I remmember being told ages ago that Woolworths (now unfortunately defunct) made their own brand cast iron pans, at a much cheaper price, but I never found them.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Another Le Cruset fan here too! So versatile and cleans really easily.

What about stainless steel, or enameled pots?
  • I have a set of lovely casserole dishes with glass lids made by Judge. They are now discontinuing the line but I got mine half price at Peter Jones. They have a fantastic non-stick coating inside and out and have a very thick bottom but they are half the weight of cast iron, and I have cooked with all sorts of things.

These are the best pans I have ever bought. I went back to Peter Jones to get four more, in different sizes, just before Christmas
