PS

Did they divulge to you the name of the original creditor as they are liable for the behaviour of their debt collection agents.

Listen to the RAS! This vile bunch need all the Compaints that we can possibly get together to be made against them.
They break sooo many Rules and their Compliance Officer seems to have got her head firmly stuck where there is no daylight!

Make all the Complaints please.

( and if you can possibly get in Contact with the man concerned get him to make Complaint. He does NOT need to speak or contact any of the scum at 1st Credit, the complaint can be made directly to the OFT, the Information Commissioners Office etc without doing that)
:D:D stay wonky :D:D

....one-way ticket to Portugal booked !

Hi folks

If this has happened to anyone else, you may be interested in this investigation ...

A journalist from the Observer is writing an article about
debt companies trying to collect old debts by employing dubious collection techniques. In particular, she’s looking at companies that have written to their neighbours in an attempt to shame people into paying.

She would like to speak to people whose neighbours have received letters from debt collection agencies (she has heard reports that J2 Solutions and Mackenzie Hall might do this).

Apparently what happens is that they get a letter asking them to confirm whether or not Mr/Mrs X still lives at that address. The person in question also gets a letter addressed to The Occupier, the letter inside usually names the person and asks if they are living there. Both letters ask for a phone call to confirm the current occupier's details.

If anything like this has happened to you or anyone you know, please email allison.dickinson@sky.com with you name and phone number.

Thanks very much

I don't know if my experience was too long ago to be relevant so I'll post it here instead of emailing the reporter. (about 3 years ago now) My best friend got a bright yellow card from Mackenzie Hall through her door saying there was an urgent message for her and to call ASAP. She phoned the number and was told that one of their "agents" were in the area and would call on her in half an hour. She phoned me in a blind panic and I went round to give her a bit of moral support.

The bloke knocked on her door and then started asking questions about her next door neighbours son. Did he live there, did he have a job, what kind of car does he drive. She was SO mad (as was I) she told him to go forth and multiply and then slammed the door in his face.

The cheeky so and so then stood there and shouted that he would be checking up on her to see if she owed any money and if she did he'd be back!

She phoned he police but they said it was a civil matter and nothing they could do.

this has happened to me. my mums neighbours received calls, asking if i still lived at that address (i didnt). they called so many times, refused to give any details (they may have told my dad the company name but he doesnt recall), just that they needed to speak to me. they even called saying they had a package to deliver to me (dad said i didnt live there anymore) and could they have my current address!! dad told them to get bent. to this day i dont know who it was!?!

Sounded like harassment to me. In which case, the police should have acted. What if it had escalated for example?

Okay, so the fact someone is acting in a suspicious manner by enquiring about people living in a property next door, asking where they worked, what kind of car etc ... and, erm, the police weren't interested? And yet they are the ones telling people to report things like this. Hmmm.

Might be worth your best friend following this up using their own complaints procedure.
It was 3 years ago so I doubt it is worth complaining about now. The bloke walked off while my friend was on the phone to the police and she already told them he was a debt collector so they knew why he was asking the questions which is probably why they said it was a civil matter.

They did tell her to call back if he returned, but he never did.
• Well, that'll teach me for not reading properly won't it. I shall oblige by jumping off the nearest bridge ASAP. *joke* Cos I can't do anything bloody right.
Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

It is never too late to complain about the 'ilk' of Mackenzie Hall.

After all, they have made their money, and lots of it, by chasing debts which are much older than 3 years - and, should the debtor be aware of his/her rights, most are legally unenforceable.

Mackenzie Hall, in particular, are currently under an OFT warning for just such behaviour.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
