Experteer - friend or foe?

I've been searching for a job for 4 months following redundancy but not been fortunate enough to secure anything yet. The web site experteer.co.uk seems to elude to suitable matches not advertised by other recruitment agencies and tantalisingly headline the vacancy(?) but the rub is that I would have to subscribe and pay for the service to know more and apply.

Question is, in the forum's opinion, do Experteer hold a key that others do not have and is there a "secret" job market that pay-for services market in?

Thanks in advance.

The industry is awash with agency type companies. I have never heard of these but would never pay for the services of anyone to get me a job. It's the company employing the person who pays the agency and not the job hunter. There really are no such thing as secret jobs not advertised elsewhere. If a job is soooooo good then individuals will be headhunted. Large and established companies will use agencies with long standing credentials and/or advertise in various newspapers/publications. It all depends upon the type of job.

I personally wouldn't go near them.

  • I did find a backstory on Experteer - the costs of the service seem to be:

Job seekers may sign-up for a free Basic Membership or a paid Premium Membership.

With a Basic Membership, clients may develop a profile and view job listings of interest to them. Listings are limited, however, to job title, industry (but not the specific organization), and salary range. Headhunters see profiles and can contact members, but headhunter-originated jobs are not available to view with the Basic Membership.

Premium Memberships are available for 1, 3, 6 and 12 months. A one-month membership costs $29.99 and a yearly membership costs $179.40 (or $14.95 per month). This membership allows clients to view all jobs in their entirety and access to the headhunter network.

If it sounds like a con, looks like a con, smells like a con, it is a con.

    Avoid.
