Would lo0ve to know what recipe you used for your spicy apple chutney!Fishcake_Random wrote: »Hello everyone,
Not popped in for a while as been busy making preserves. So far have made 2 batches of Autumn Jam (damson, apple, pear, plum and blackberry) and 2 lots of plum jam. Currently on the stove is a vat of Spicy Apple Chutney to add to my stores.
I still have a carrier bag full of plums left though and could use some ideas. I'm going to make up a dozen small crumbles with some but I need recipes that use up a lot of plums.

I really hate the seed from blackberries as they get caught in my teeth! but it seems a waste to let all that free fruit go to waste, so has anyone made a seedless blackberry jam, should it be one of them jelly type ones?any ideas?!!!0

I made a jelly type kind earlier this year and it worked really well. I only like seeds in raspberry jam, can't stand peel in marmalade either."Who’s that tripping over my bridge?" roared the Troll.

I've made blackberry jelly this year - just cover fruit with water and gently mash then simmer. Let blackberry mulch drain overnight and then add 1lb sugar to every pint of liquid. I will add less sugar next time as it was a bit sweet and I used jam sugar. I have a friend who makes blackberry jam but she sieves the fruit first to remove seeds.
I then sieved the blackberries that were left and added the resulting pulp to apple sauce to make a crumble.
If I had been really adventurous I would have tried fruit leathers
Maybe next year

Can I use a slow cooker to make chutney. I have everything ready (pears are starting to go - I need to use them quick) but husband has smashed my hob:eek: accidently!Wooligans member 2010 - 6 animal blankets. 2 angel wraps, 2 baby hat, 4 Aaron squares, 5 cardigans

I've not tried it, but I would think that you can use a slow cooker. Unlike making jam where you need the jam to cook at a rolling boil, chutney is simmered until it reduces and thickens.0
