exchange without receipt

can you exchange anything these days without a receipt or proof of purchase?

I have a couple of brand new items, still boxed and sealed but have no idea what to do to get my money back out of them

    hi
if you can prove to a shop that the stock came from there they may let you exchange them most shops will only give refund if the item is faulty and you can prove purchase

Shops don't have to give a refund.

If the item still has the price tag on, they "may" give you a credit note for the current selling price, but you are very unlikely to get your money back.
Perhaps sell them on an auction site?

If they came from the store- ie brands like Topshop sell Topshop own brand products, then you could possibly get an exchange. But it is a guesture of goodwill- there is no law about refunding or exchangine unless the product is faulty and basicly the rule of thumb on it is: if the company can sell it on without making a loss, then they are likely to agree to an exchange.

True, if the item is no longer a stock line, they are unlikely to accept it back at all, as they cannot re-sell it.
