I am irritated

Everywhere I look on this site, people with more debt than me are either on or are being offered DMPs and are paying back a % monthly equivalent to what I am paying back to my cc's.......I was told that I should consider "bankruptcy" - because I happen to own a house????? It seems that it doesn't matter that the house has no equity in it and that rent in the area where I live is more expensive than my mortgage.

Sorry for ranting, but that is the reponse I got from CCCS last year. When I had my telephone appointment with the counsellor I told her what I knew I could live on and she told me that I COULDN'T. In actual fact I have been living that way for the past year so how on earth can I possibly get on to a DMP if this is the attitude? Is it because I don't rent?

I managed to get my cc to freeze interest for a year but that year is up on 29th January and I am going to have the same stress all over again. Last year it took four months to sort out and interest accrued throughout that period was around £900.

Why can't advisors take my word for how I can live?
:j Got the loan and now down from £9k to £4.5k. Trying to get a better mortgage deal now but thanks to ex-husband I am being knocked back..... Still in a better place than two years ago. Have faith!:j

Have you tried Payplan or CAB? CCCS said I needed to budget better and pay more to my debts, CAB looked at the same figures and advised bankruptcy, national debt line said just to keep paying token payments. So if you get no joy with one it's always worth trying another.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • I know people on this site will shoot me down in flames but I am using a debt management company. I suffer with depression and dealing with creditors is too much for me to cope with. The company have taken all the stress away and I feel i can get up in the morning and be able to answer my phone and open the post again.
It may not be the solution for you but I feel this is a good way to look after my debts and mental health and be here for my kids instead of being admitted.
    God! that sounds so dramatic!!!

The places I mentioned are debt management companies, the only thing different to commercial ones is that they don't charge, so all the payments go to creditors not to lining some firm's pocket. I understand what you mean about the mental health issues, I have them myself, but a charging company aren't any better at helping with it than a charity.

  • thanks Ames for not shouting. I know I have possibly done the expensive thing but it is still way cheaper than all the interest.
