Finally I feel like I am able to post something of value to the rest of you, instead of leeching information in readiness for the big day! As of 12.50 and 12.57 today my OH and I were declared BR at the Royal Courts of Justice.
For anyone who has to attend, the process is quite simple. We arrived just after 9.30 because of a slight train delay. The building itself can be daunting due to its size and grandeur, and the airport-type security you have to go through on arrival, but the people there are very pleasant, they take your money with a smile and then you proceed to the Thomas More building where you process your paperwork, the clerk goes through it and asks a few questions, then you are told to leave and return at 2.30. We left at around 10.30 with 4 hours to kill so had a walk around the West End looking at stuff we can't afford to buy in the freezing cold, but at least it was good exercise, 4 hours is a lot of walking!
When we returned, pretty much everyone (around 25-30 people) were already in the waiting room, and at around 2.45 the group was told to go up to the counter when our names were called, and everyone was informed that their paperwork had all gone through and that we should wait for the OR to call us in the next couple of days.
All in all it was a relatively painless process, stressful yes as you never know what to expect but having read the excellent info on here from all of you I kind of had an idea it would go like that. We never had to get up in front of a judge/magistrate/registrar, no questions were asked at all.
We then went to Co-Op to open our new accounts, and both our applications were referred! Has anyone else experienced that, is it normal? I guess our credit files are a bit messy since we haven't paid any debts for a few months!
Anyway personally we are relieved it is over, it is also a slightly numb feeling, after all this time it has finally happened. We know that the next step is the OR interview... I am sure I will have some questions that I will post in the next day or two!
Thanks again to everyone for your solid advice, it has really helped us in the process so far. I'll keep you all posted of developments as and when they happen - I hope we can help others in future.
Early start at work tomorrow so no celebrations tonight but a couple of beers with friends tomorrow night is definitely in order!

Congratulations. I got referred by the Co-op and got an account OK. I didn't hear anything for a week, so I call them and they gave me my account details straight away once they had confirmed the security questions.0
