Council tax discount when doing up a new flat

Can anyone help me
My friend bought her first flat but hasn't moved in yet as it needs work done to it before she can move in.
She's already had 6 months of exemption and has been told she can get 50% reduction whilst she is still doing it up. Is this correct?
I know she could get the single perosns (25%) but it's just wondering about this other reduction she's heard about.

50% reduction would be for flat being unoccupied. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

The discount for any unoccupied and furnished property will apply until she moves in (this discount varies between councils, legislation allows the discount to set to between 50% and 10%).
It depends what work needs doing, if its uninhabitable and undergoing major works then a Class A exemption may actually be applicable.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
