Shares and BR question

My hubby gets free shares from work and also pays into a share scheme through his wages. What I was wondering is this :-
1, We have had to sell some shares lately for the BR fees and also to pay other bits and bobs and,
2, He is still paying for other shares through his pay. These are tied up for 3 years after buying.
so do we have to inform OR of the fact that he has shares, obviously he will see for himself from the wageslips that he has them and, will we have to tell him/her that we have sold some lately? and can they put a hold on them to gain when they mature?
