stuck with husbands debts through property charges

My husband has left the country without payin his credit cards. There are currently 2 property charges on the house we shared.More property charges will follow. I have spoken to his creditors to say he does not live here and that I have no idea where he is. Their response is that as he is still on the mortgage he is still classed as livng/having interest in property.Iam up to date with the mortgage and my own bills. My husband was willing to sign a transfer of equity to me, however his creditors are blocking this, saying he will get off scott free from his debts. So i am stuck with the mortgage, can never sell, move or remortgage until the propert charges are paid. My husband has no intention of paying. I am currenlt going through divorve proceedings which is made more difficult as I do not know where he lives.Should I just give house back to Building Society?

  • You cannot 'just give the property back'.

Fail to pay the mortgage and you will have the house repossessed. In addition to any shortfall, there will be legal fees and other costs until you and/or your husband repay the debt. They will chase you (and your husband if they can find him) for all of the debt.

  • Sorry, I did not mean literally give house back to building society. What options do I have, as I said earlier I am still paying the mortgage, but for what! There is equity of about 40k, but propert charges may go as high as 20k. I cant sell as need his signature then he would be entitled to half even though he has not contributed anything for the past 2 years. Plu:mad: s I am srill paying life insurance for both of us!!
