abbey finallly paid out on 1986 endowment

after 3 years and a claim to the ombudsman we have been paid out today.
Not a lot at £385 BUT the mortgage was only 19500 and my projected shortfall had dropped from 3500 to 1000 in the last 2 years so not unexpected.

You can claim yourself - its fairly straightforward - 2 or 3 letters and a form for the Ombudsman that you can dowload and you get ALL of any award.

Some providers will also go back before 1988 as well, so go for it.

Only Banks, Building Societies and Insurance companies will look at pre-1988 claims. Your friendly local IFA is not interested now he's pocketed his commission from his bad advice and ran. And is still pocketing the trail commissions every year. And your projection gets redder and redder.

What about those IFAs that have never had an endowment complaint but still have to pay out thousands every year to pay those buggers that did?

Your friendly local IFA may be just as !!!!!! as you at some of his or her colleagues. ;)
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

What these IFAs should do IMHO, to advertise both their competence, and their willingness to treat customers fairly, is to agree to consider pre 88 complaints on the same basis as the big firms.

The FSA should give some kind of a rebate to all IFAs willing to do this and give them some publicity on its website.

Making this kind of gesture would help to separate the good IFAs from the cowboys, don't you think?
    Trying to keep it simple...;)
