Hi
Going to court this month re BR and I know it sounds silly but am worried sick about work reading about it in the local paper. We haven't told anyone apart from close family and the department I work in would know it was me due to my unusual name. Does anyone know how long it is before it goes into the paper and whether all BR's are done this way?

I spoke to the classified section of my local rag yesterday regarding this. I was told they do appear, though not possibly everyday, it might not be tomorrow, it might not be next week, ...

Give your paper a bell and ask....

I wouldn't worry about it. How many times have you read the bankruptcy notices in the local paper? You're better off if it appears in a local newspaper anyway. If it appears in the London Gazette it's searchable in the future.

Besides, bankruptcy is nothing to be ashamed of. If you're insolvent, you're insolvent. It's not a crime. Banks, businesses and even the Government have struggled to managed the finances. It's no wonder that individuals have struggled. I've told the people I've wanted to tell about my bankruptcy (and a few others I didn't plan to) and all have been supportive and non-judgemental. I appreciate that not everyone will be that way but who cares? You're just another statistic like the 10,000+ who will go bankrupt this month. Stay positive, you'll be debt free soon enough.

Very often, the notice appears in a paper that is local to the court as opposed to local to you, so if you personally live miles from court (don't know if that's the case), it may not be in your local rag anyway.

As above, try not to worry - no one that I know goes out of their way to read that section anyway.

Don't worry - to quote a wiser member than me:

Other than the 'ghouls' who scour the newspapers with the sole intention of gloating over the misfortune of others, I doubt that anyone will notice it - even if they do, they will probably forget about it within a day or so.

    Hello scarlettnm,
There was something about the local rag notices being made discretionary this year but it seems to have gone very quiet in that regard. I don't think many people read that part of the paper anyway - tends to be tiny print, very dull. But a notice in the London Gazette is a given as that's the "trade rag" for insolvency.

I missed my notice, but my SIL saw it. TBH there are so many other things to be concerned about and get sorted - the paper will be in the bin tomorrow, so don't stress about it.

    Hi Scarletnm,

I don't know your exact situation, but for the pot ...

I've been very open with friends about what I'm about to do. From my experiences in doing so and the experiences of others that I've read about on here; you may find people around you coming forward and saying
    • "I've done that"
    • "I've been thinking about it, how do you actually go about it?"
