Large battery life Laptop

A pal is after a large battery life laptop with at least a 14" screen. He doesn't want to pay a fortune for it, so somewhere between £300-£350.

I have tried looking at the laptops in the under £300 thread, but alot dont mention battery life.

If anyone has a recommendation, its much appreciated.

  • the general rule rule which is widely accepted regarding battery life and laptops is this

the more cells the battery has the longer the battery life

the samsung NC10 has 6 cells and has up to 7.5 hours battery life

the dell mini 9 has just 4 cells so you get far less about half the samsung

Something to bear in mind though is battery life is something which is becoming a claim to fame for most manufacturers and a distinguishing feature to set it apart from others in the market, this can mean these battery life figures areand will be slightly exaggerated! or marked with an * to say it only applies in optimum coinditions, wifi switched off etc

so the answer is in the battery cell the higher the better but expect to pay more for a higher cell battery

I don't know if this is right, but wouldn't it be possible to just buy the laptop you want, and then buy a more powerful battery??

Btw, I have a HP laptop and the battery only lasts about an hour if that. I only use it at home though, so most of the time it is plugged in anyway.
  • Thanks for the replies guys.

The laptop is for a friend, who wants the laptop, to use in his campervan whilst away for the weekend. I can recommend he buy a laptop and a better battery, but I was wondering if there was anything out there for this type of money.

Worth looking to get one that has a 12 volt mains adapter, so that he would be able to recharge and run it from the campervan battery.

If the van has a 24volt system like a lorry then virtually any laptop could be used with a suitable adapter lead..
