Old debt back !

Hi,
About three years ago I closed a mobile phone account with 3. I vaguely remember there being some dispute about the final bill but as far as I can remember it was settled over the phone. I have just received a letter from a debt collection agency (they've bought the debt from 3) demanding £18.78 or 'I may face legal proceedings'. Unfortunately I have disposed of all the paperwork I had pertaining to my 3 account so have no evidence that the dispute was settled
I know it's a small amount but the principle is important to me, I don't want to pay money I don't owe and also I resent being chased by debt collectors with their threatening letters. My question is can they take legal proceedings against me for such a small amount ?

Hi! My only suggestion would be to get a copy of the credit agreement you had with them?
Also (I believe!!), you should have had a letter from 3 saying that they were passing the debt to whoever and also a letter from the debt collection agency introducing themselves!
Hopefully some other bright spark will be along with more help in a bit!!

You can't get a CCA for a mobile phone contact.
They can take you to court, but I wouldn't have thought they would do for such a small amount!
All I can think of is getting in touch with 3 about it. Or if you paid by switch then your bank might have a record of it somewhere? I don't suppose you still have the bank statements from then?Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Hi! Sorry for my mistake regarding the CCA!!:o
Re;- bank statements, if you haven't got the paperwork, do you have internet banking? I know I can look at my transactions dating back 6 years on line!start = Wed 19th Nov 2008 £21,225

They need to prove you owe the debt, not the other way around. Request they provide a copy of the airtime agreement and statement of accounts which prove you still owe the debt. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

I'd pay the 18 quid and be done with it rather than spend the time on it.
Life's too short to worry about this stuff.0 -
