Abbey mortgage

Has anyone else applied for an Abbey mortgage and had a really hard time to not sign up for their insurances? My husband and I just applied last Sat and the woman doing the application was really pushy. We eventually managed to convince her we didn't want critical illness (can't really afford it at the moment and we are only in our mid 20s) insurance, but said we would think about the others.I had to take the mortgage application away for us both to sign (husband had to rush off to football) and today she has been rather rude and cross that we aren't taking out their life insurance and contents/buildings, simply because we have found much cheaper quotes.
Am just getting scared now that something with the application could go wrong, and we could only find abbey to lend us the money as i am doing a phd and loads of lenders don't accept maintenance grants.

I had a similar situation when I signed up for my mortgage with HSBC. Declining the heavily pushed insurance didn't affect the rate or their willingness to give us the mortgage, I would expect Abbey would be the same. It may just be the person selling was on commission (not sure if you went to a broker or direct with Abbey ?) and was just a bit miffed that she wouldn't get her cut.0

Why not say yes to the cover and then when all is sorted cancel it. We had the same problem with them pushing for us to have their life insurance. We have accepted it to shut them up but when it comes in to force will cancel it within the 30 days. They quoted us £20 amonth but can get the same cover with norwich union for £12!0

Why on earth should they have the cheek to be so intimidating? Abbey closed down their call centre here last year to go to India, throwing plenty of people out of work. That woman should be glad someone wants their mortgage, and keeps her in a job. (I do accept that she is probably under pressure to sell insurances, but rudeness is not good customer service).0
