I'd like some clarification myself on this issue!
It works fine with the 3G iPhone
I have it in black (got it from play.com before Christmas) and use it daily with both my iPod Nano (the new one) and my 3G iPhone. My boss also has it for his daughter and she loves it.
The iPhone doesn't have to be in airplane mode (though you sometimes get some interference if you don't have it in airplane mode, just the noise when a text is going through but certainly nothing major).
It's been a fantastic buy in our house

Totally agree with this post, there is only slight interference when a text tries to come through on the 3G iphone. I use the dock every day and am really impressed with the sound quality, for the price it is an absolute bargain
Just note though that when you dock the iphone 3G it asks you to put it into airplane mode, just select no and it then goes straight to charge. I read some reviews where peeps got this message and sent the dock back assuming it wouldn't work with the 3G iphone.:starmod:C'est la vie:starmod:0
