as far as i can see the contract market is a bit tight and will be for the next 3 to 6 months as firms tighten their belts and lose permies. once they realise they've released too many they'll be hiring again plugging holes that they've left in their workforce.
good luck in Norway!!0 -
I spoke to an agent this week who said that the permie market is dead, but the contract market is booming (at least in SAP HR, dunno about other sectors). He said that companies still need the work doing but that employers dont want the commitment of permanent employees. He also mentioned that contractors are not on headcount reports and their costs can be offset against corporation tax.
Dunno if he was right, but all it seemed logical.Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

that's good to hear - i guess as Hoffenheim are top of the Bundesliga; it must be a reflection on the demand for SAP

Sounds good DD. I remember as a much younger man jetting off to the USA, Germany, Ireland and places on business. Chucked it all in to do my own thing. Still good memories. Never been to Norway tho. Hope it`s good.0

I can remember that happening in the 80s. My wife, working for a large computer firm saw guys getting big pay offs only to come back shortly afterwards. She gave up working for them and went back on a contract basis earning in 2 days the same amount as it took a week to make whilst employed.0 -

it will probably happen again this time around; firms will be making decisions on budgets and saving money rather than considering roles and responsibilities unfortunately (or fortunately for people like DD and myself). they'll realise that positiones/roles aren't supported well and have to put people in place sometimes at a greater cost.0
