to Martin or anyone who may know. ( i dont mean the big orgs like credit counselling etc)
Does anyone know where you can get insolvency advice, that is free-ish. For obvious reasons, when you havent got money, you cant pay easily.
I know about making arrangements etc, i want to know about old debts ,that havent heard from for years, if banks will come after me later etc
so I can look forwards not backwards
I have found that the insolvency people i have met are like many dentists, and want 300 pound to start talking, then you are a couple of thousand down before you realise they were no help.
I have suffered from depression for a few years, due mainly to credit card companies and credit reference agencies, giving me little choices, and a couple of ccjs on the way
and find it v hard to get straight, because credit records, not knowing where stand with old debts, that havent contacted me for a long time etc are in back of mind all the time. How can i move forward, any professionals that are contactable/online/anywhereeeeeeeeeee (not govt/ or credit card sponsored)
Thanks forever ... maybe

Ok. One of the thing probably everyone will suggest and who are really excellent, is the CAB. They can help answer a lot of questions. The other thing you can do is go down the court and pick up the papers, and ask as many questions as you can down there. I found the staff really helpful, so you may get some answers at the court itself.
The other thing I did, which was pretty cheeky but on the advice of a friend. I went into the phone book, and looked up insolvency and called some insolvency practitioners. Over the phone, I squeezed out as much info as poss, and when I had asked as many questions as were reasonable, I rang another. I called four people, randomly, and 3 of 4 were exceptionally helpful.
The other thing is the insolvency website here.
If the original poster town cryer could add to this thread with exact details of all debts and so on, I am sure Addicted to Chocolate who knows loads about bankruptcy, would definately be able to answer some questions. Maybe Tondella could redirect the poster.
Hope that helps0 -

My OH was looking into bankruptcy ... he says the best (FREE!) advice came from National Debtline, and that also Business Debtline were good if that's relevant to you.
With Business Debtline he called a couple of times and found some advisors were more useful than others, so if you don't get what you're looking for first time, call again.
