nhs professionals?

Hi.
I've been offered a place on a course by a company called NHS Professionals.
I responded to an advert in the paper a while ago and sent off my cv.
I'm not a nurse but the job is bank nurse, which I assume is auxillary duties in the wards. They claim to train you and then give you shifts according to your requirements.
Just wondering if anyone here works for them or knows what they are like?
My ultimate aim is to become a qualified member of personnel and am hoping this will eventually open doors. At the moment I have two pre-schoolers and am not looking for full time work so it seems ideal.
Should I snatch their hands off or be forewarned and therefore forearmed?

YOu can usually get bank shifts as an HCA by applying the local health trust and attending an interview like every other job, training is provided for health assistants so i don't understand what the point in this company is?0

My mum holds a senior position within the NHS and has advised me to contact nhs proffesionals about bank work at my local hospital so I would say go for it!
Their website is www.nhsprofessionals.nhs.uk/0 -
NHS professionals is a bank of nurses and healthcare assistants that are booked by NHS hospitals direct. I worked on the admin side of a nurse bank at my local hospital for 4 years. As we had our own bank potentially you wouldn’t have to use NHS Proff. Effectively they are like an agency but one that is preferred by a lot of hospitals. They offer you work to suit you but it’s not always that simple. i.e. my hospital had shifts such as early 0730-1330, lates 1330-2030, long days 0730-2030 and nights 2000-0800. You can’t do 9-5 or 3-6 for instance as the wards like someone to be there for the whole shift
They are a trust worth company and it is a good way to get known at the hospitals but if you want to train to be a qualified nurse you would have to go to Uni.
Hope this is off some help and If you have any questions PM me and I will do my best to answer them. My Partner did a lot of bank work and her dad works in A/E so I know quite a bit about the set up.0 -
I used to work for NHS Prof. Before them I worked directly for the HCA on the bank, but they then forced us all to move over to NHS Prof. I guess it's good that you can work for any HCA if you're on NHS Prof, but I never knew how to use the system to book work, and just used to get phonecalls as I did with the HCA!0

Thank you all. I'm about to take the plunge....wish me luck!!0

the only doors that will open for you will be advice on how to apply for a nursing qualification - you will still need to train for 3 years
if you are able to stay with one ward and they get to know/like you then they might ask you direct to work more shifts (but still through nhs P) this will help with funding for the course
although the work is always there it can be sporadic as lots of wards have regular workers.
they are ok to work for, just make sure you check and double check you've filled in your timesheet right! good luck0 -
