Recession - How bad can things actually get?

Loads more job losses announced yesterday/ today :(

What if the governments last-ditch strategies don’t work?

How bad can things actually become/ whats the worst case senario?

We’ve seen individuals, small to major businesses go bankrupt, is it possible that the next thing we could be watching is countries going down the tubes?

Check out the dozen or so countries already 'rescued' by the IMF.

Brown's bankrupt Britain will be going cap in hand in about six months after the bond sales collapse.

Do they all have your tremendously insightful post, or is this thread the only one that’s blessed?

FYI the board is tagged 'recession' should we just condense it in to one big thread entitled 'The Recession' for you? :P

Do you think your average taxpayer in the middle is going to get squashed in the coming years?

When the government are bailing out, should we all be bailing out too ie to a different country?

If so, like a global rendition of the Mad Max movies, in the future will it be countries with large supply of sought after natural resources that will become the worlds new super powers, would they be a good option?

To be fair, I'm not sure if you can pin all blame on GB can we? I dont think anyone at the top level saw this coming did they?

I don't know how right enough?

A few years ago, I remember getting a bit P’d off by all the blatantly stupid property programs on the telly….

“This is Anne, she’s a single mother with three kids who used to work in Tesco… but now shes a property developer!”

Anne would buy a house, get Krzysztof the Polish builder to knock a wall down or two, slap some emulsion on the walls and flog it too a mug couple who had secured a 5000% mortgage from a bank with source funds derived from money trees & pots of gold at the end of each rainbow. Just before the credits rolled, some 16 year old, Beckham look-a-like estate agent would waltz in.

“Initially this property was worth a fiver, but we like your shade of Dulux, so we are pleased to say we now value it at £450,000”. The following week, after browsing Right Move, the Jones’s next door would be circling the dining room table in naïve delight that their property has allegedly quadrupled in price.

At the same time in the states, the salvation army were handing out aid to street buskers, which included hot soup, cup of tea and a mortgage.

While back in the U.K. the Tax payer has been subsidising the building of new council houses, so that others (a small number who have hardly done a days hard work), can move in, be offered cheap mortgages from the bank & buy them at a third of their market value only to sell them on for three times as much….and then the tax payer needs to fund the building of even more homes to replace the ones that have been sold.

….and then there’s global shock when a system driven by ignorant greed fails? Mad.
  • The worst it could get for me is if I ever have to eat Tesco "Value" Irish Stew again. :D
    The World come on.....
  • When my second son was born I was invited round my friends for tea. They knocked up a turkey mince meal. I'd have to be destitute before I'd try that again.

You ate that? Thats one of the few meals that taste better on the way back up.

What irony if you'd also lost money after dobbin falls at the first.
