I had the foresight and knowledge that I have gained in the past few weeks!

Thank you for all of your help and support yesterday - I really appreciate it!

I am finding it hard to accept reality, although I know that I have to!! Living within our means is going to be the hardest thing to accept, although I know it needs to be done before we face complete financial ruin!!

I am so disappointed that it has come to this, and that we are now having to seek help with our problems. At the same time, I am positive that we are seeking help - it is a real double edged sword feeling!

I had my reality check three weeks ago - we could carry on living as we are, but I know that in another 12 mths our situation would be far, far worse.

The easy part was running up the debt, the really hard part is going to be paying it all off, in some shape or form over the next god knows how many years.

I am angry that my daughter may miss out on the finer things in life because of our financial stupidity. I am determined though that I will make the best of this whole sorry mess.

I have always had the "dont worry, we will pay it all off" attitude - the reality is that without some sort of help we wont be able to. We may have to sell our home, and I am gutted because we have worked incredibly hard to get where we are.
Life is a bummer at the moment, but I suppose things can only get better.

I have contacted Payplan this morning - they are able to make an appt with us on Sun morning, which is a week earlier that CCCS could provide. That will put my mind at rest a little bit more!

THanks again for all of your support - I really do appreciate it. At the moment it feels like a great cloud is over us, but by trying to sort this out it will hopefully start to lift soon!

Best wishes and luck to you all

Jo

If it is any consolation, your daughter would much rather her mummy was happy. Children at the end of the day want very little. All the fancy toys and holidays in the world wont matter to her if she sees you are miserable and upset. There are lots of things you can do for little or no money. i'm an expert at making playdough! Spending time with her is all she wants. My kids are 11 and 12 now and we have the most fun cooking, walking the dog and watching old movies. :T

    Hi ind_espair,
I agree with fbrander your daughter would much rather happy parents than stressed out ones,if your daughter is old enough to understand maybe you could explain whats going on.Children prefer to spend time with their parents and theres lots of free things to do together.I hope you feel alot better after your meeting and please come back and let us all know how you got on,GOOD LUCK.

    Hi Jo

I'm so pleased you sound a bit better today, was really concerned for you yesterday.

Its true your daughter won't miss out while shes young to her you are the most important thing in the world.

Its when shes a teenager she'll be after your money lol

she will grow up learning the value of things & not expecting everything to be handed to her on a plate which will give her a great start in life.

good luck with the meeting, let us know how you get on

    xx
  • Hi jo,

good to see you are taking positive steps, yep there will be bad days and good days.

You may not lose the house and even if you were renting its not the end of the world, millions do and debt free renting maybe better than mortgaged + debt. So its not the be all and end all and you can always get on the ladder at a later date.

If I remember correctly you said you were a teacher so who knows in a few year or so with a promotion or two you could easily be debt free and have cash spare.

Any way keep posting and I hope you treat yourself to a "worry free" day this weekend and enjoy some quality time and laughs with your family...(laughing ...remember that !!!)...you can be in debt and still have good times.

    I wish you well.
