cashback sites less retailers allow

I've been a fan of cashback sites - rec'd a lot of money over the last few years. Until around 2004 I had my own system of adding affiliate links to my own website - and effectively using it for my own uses - then I found Greasy
Palm , and swapped over to quidco later.. as easier that way

I still get a lot of the affiliate news letters - what I'm seeing is more and more firms are stopping cashback/ incentive sites from having their links, or like a major holiday accomodation website have reduced commissions for these sites but not for affilaites ... are we seeing the start of an end to the gravy train ??

    Hi,

I did this also, and then moved to topcashback as they give 100% of the commission. I don't think its the "end of the gravy train", just like any other business when tiumes are tough, they have to cut back. So you will find some businesses cutting there affiliate commission, so the cashback sites like greasypalm and myshopping rewards dont only cut back the percentage the end business cuts but adds on there own percentage cut they pass on, so they dont lose as much money.

Also as some internet businesses go bust (in the currect climate) so does the affiliate commission stream go. I too still get the news letters from a varied selection of affiliate companies and there are still new companies being added all the time.

I am signed up to around 6 cashback sites and everytime I am shopping from somewhere that is not on topcashback, I will search for the best cashback from the others.
if i had known then what i know now

Yes I have noticed many merchants cutting or stopping all together its bound to happen given the down turn

I left Quidco about 6 months ago because they are not tracking despite having no other problems with other cashback web sites and yes I clean my cookies too.

I now use Topcashback and cashback rewards

Its not a cut back on merchants / affiliate schemes- just amazed when I looked at the list that would not allow cashbacksites to list them, then a big holiday firm I use saying cutting levels on cashback sites but not for normal advertisers... looks like I'll have to brush up on my web skills and load my ow sites again

I totally understand what you mean. But from what ive heard, the reason is so new cashback sites dont open all over the place. They still offer good rates to the big guys in the cashback industry, unless it comes down to the "free cash" option like kelkoo clicks, these will come to the end very shortly.

  • I think quite a few of these cash back sites start out OK but I don't know if it's the owners trying to make a extra buck or something else but they usually go downhill. Not really a cash back site but when ipoints started out it was quite generous but the value of points has dropped over the years. Same can be said of Mutualpoints, it's got so bad that I haven't had a transaction track since March 08! From comments made on this site it looks like Quidco is going the same way.
