  • I'm wondering if they do a credit check? I've gone back on a few past threads and it looks like most people had them before br and kept them going after br? Has anyone opened one since br?

    Update

I am a CO-OP bank customer and having found i cant use my Electron online with Tesco, i phoned them and was told much the same as others that you have to be able to put your PIN in at purchase, which we know now is rubbish. Since this thread is over a year old, it is clear Tesco has done nothing about this matter and doesnt intend to.
I have found through searching that some banks are indeed changing Electron cards to Visa Debit Cards, and i am being sent one by the Co-op, however the card will not be able to be used at Tesco unline still because the information the card holds is the same as the Electron. Whether this will be any different with other online retailers remains to be seen.

    Hi Everyone,

I've just had a letter from Tesco's about Visa Electron , this is a direct quote -
"We currently do not take Visa Electron cards, because previously these cards were not designed to take payment where the cardholder was not present. However Visa have changed the rules with Visa Electron cards and they can now be used online. As a result we are planning to change our systems to accept Visa Electron in the future."

    :T :T :T :T :T :T :T

You will note that they do not say when they will be changing their systems. So we will just have to keep a watch on the Tesco's site to see when it happens. I still don't see why lot's of other on line sites accept Electron but Tesco's have been snooty about Electron for so long but who cares as long as they change sooner rather than later

    Cheers

Apologies for reviving an old thread, but it came up in the search when I googled 'when did tesco stop accepting electron?'
I bank with co-op and have the new style cards which say visa debit and no mention of electron on them, but cannot order my groceries online with tesco. The error comes up that I am trying to use a card they don't accept. But what is really bugging me is I KNOW that I have used this card several times before with Tesco.
I am all too aware of the issue with co-op cards and Asda (ie being charged twice etc) so I cannot use asda for my shopping, and now I cannot use tesco either...totally baffled

    Any thoughts fellow moneysavers?

    As DI says.

I had a problem with a First Direct card a few years ago, always used the same card then had problems on one day. Rang Tesco up and sorted the problem - in my case it was because I didn't realise I needed the amount in my bank account on the day I ordered, thought it just had to be there on delivery day, ahem.

But it could be a glitch in the system so well worth ringing them anyway.
When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN :D

Yep! yesterday Tesco were having problems with their systems. I was having a delivery and they rang and said they couldn't take the money and did I have another card. I told them yes I did but it was an electron card and they said sorry no can do.Could I go to town and get the money out, if I wanted to go to town I would have got my shopping there and no I am having a bad health day and can't go out of the house.

The driver arrived and loudly informed me there is a problem with the card and did I have the money. I told him he had been mis-informed and it wasn't my card but the computer system and no I was not walking into town to get the money. He went back and rung customer service and then came back and told me that I could have my groceries and they would take the money when they could.

So try again and see what happens. Oh! and I haven't had double charging problems with Asda in about a year.
