Update on Tesco's & Visa Electron

Hi Everyone,

I've just had a letter from Tesco's about Visa Electron , this is a direct quote -
"We currently do not take Visa Electron cards, because previously these cards were not designed to take payment where the cardholder was not present. However Visa have changed the rules with Visa Electron cards and they can now be used online. As a result we are planning to change our systems to accept Visa Electron in the future."

:T :T :T :T :T :T :T

You will note that they do not say when they will be changing their systems. So we will just have to keep a watch on the Tesco's site to see when it happens. I still don't see why lot's of other on line sites accept Electron but Tesco's have been snooty about Electron for so long but who cares as long as they change sooner rather than later

Cheers

  • That is fantastic news! It would also explain why I couldn't pay for my car service over the phone recently with my Visa Electron card...
  • Hi Guys,

I work for for Tesco's Head Office. And believe me there systems are so antiquated you would not believe it for the 3rd largest retailler in the world. I doubt it's snootiness just lack of capabilities.
Tesco's pay out for nothing unless it makes them lots of money.

I am reading all the Electron online stuff with interest...... not least because I was a bit annoyed yesterday when I tried to buy something from Holland and Barratt (vitamins) online to find that they don't accept Electron!

    Barclays here I come!

My company does accept Electron but it is an absolute faff to get an account set up. Unless the person has some traceable verification of their age online we have to take either their driving licence or passport details and do an Age Verification. Our business involves gambling. It is very time consuming.

As someone has already quite rightly pointed out, Electron cards are available to 16 yr olds and therefore any business which involves selling or providing a service to over 18s only (alcohol, gambling) could have a problem with Electron, depending on their computer system.

    Just a thought ......;)

Its always been a strange policy with Tesco's when the rest of the supermarkets use electron and you would think people like us would be Tesco's target audience.....

I recently had to buy a new washing machine and none of the white good suppliers......Dixon, curry took electron as the year goes on and they realise that most of the country has electron they will change .....
