How to stop pension credits

My grandmother passed away quite recently, in the process of sorting out bank accounts.

However I have came across a post office account which is getting a weekly pension payment plus disability living allowance.

First question, who do I write to for canceling future payments (I cant find a national insurance number) and secondly can they demand return of approx 2-3 payments after death

I guess closing the post office account is the same as bank accounts.

Thanks in advance

you need to let the disabillity unit in blackpool no about the dla and the pension service about pension credit you can get there adress from local job centre plus. and yes they can take the money she was paid after death as this is an overpayment. hope this helps
  • If the pension payment is a state retirement pension, then it's the Pension Service you need. There is a special form (BD8) if you re notifying the Pension Service in writing, but it will be easier and quicker to phone them on 0845 6060 265, bearing in mind that you would need to phone them to get a copy of the form. See this link for more info. They should be able to tell you the contact number for the disability living allowance which I don't have to hand.

    firstly, sorry about your loss.

there is always so much to do after a person dies.

Tthe POCA I know about (work in a PO) once you have informed the Pesnion Service etc of her death, give the PO a call the number is on the back of the card.

Get a form for the PO, fill it out, bring a copy of the death certificate, plus the original (this just to prove the copy is of the original), and some ID for yourself.

The money is transferred (its usually next of kin or who is doing the estate) and then the powers that be asks for any overpayment, or indeed gives any money yet to be paid.
